Root Canal Therapy (RCT) to save your Teeth

  • Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a dental procedure to treat infections or damage to the pulp (the innermost part of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels). It involves removing the infected or dead pulp, cleaning the root canals, and sealing them to prevent reinfection.

RCT is indicated for:

  1. Pulp Inflammation/Infection: Due to deep cavities, cracks, or trauma.
  2. Severe Tooth Pain: Especially when chewing or with temperature sensitivity.
  3. Abscess Formation: Pus-filled swelling near the tooth root.
  4. Tooth Discoloration: Caused by pulp necrosis.
  5. Prosthetic Needs: To prepare a tooth for a crown or bridge.
While the patient often arrives with mild to severe pain, the process of RCT is rather painless as it done in local anesthesia.
Diagnosis: X-rays confirm infection extent and assess the root canal anatomy.
Anesthesia: Local anesthesia ensures the procedure is pain-free.
RCT: A small hole is drilled to access the pulp chamber. Infected or dead pulp tissue is removed using specialized files. Root canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped. The canals are filled with gutta-percha and sealed.
Filling/Restoration: The tooth is restored with a filling or crown to regain strength and function.
